BIGGEST BG BOARD
Player International Ltd of London, publishers of the newly launched backgammon portal GammonLife.com, today revealed another world first.
Organisers of the first million-dollar backgammon tournament to be held January 21-25, 2007 in The Bahamas, Player International commissioned Flightpath Media to create the world’s biggest backgammon board.

The board was created on the incoming flight path of London’s Gatwick Airport to celebrate the creation of this historical backgammon event and will be seen until the end of July by millions of arriving passengers on flights from around the world.

The formation, over 100,000 square feet in size is currently being reviewed by the Guinness Book of Records to see if the world record has been broken. The project took six people four days to produce using 4,000 litres of paint.

Flightpath Media has created some of the biggest outdoor advertisements for international companies such as Unilever, Ikea and Thomson Holidays.

Commenting on the amazing feat, Stephen Pearson, Managing Director of Player International Ltd said, “This project is designed to promote the game of backgammon which is set to explode as poker did with the world’s first million-dollar event. If we break a world record it will be a superb achievement.”

In a few short weeks since its launch, GammonLife.com has become the leading online community site bringing the latest news to backgammon enthusiasts from across the world and publishes articles by expert writers and contributors offering advice and tips on the strategy of the game.

The formation at Gatwick will remain in place until the end of July and is an eye-opening experience for travellers, as it was for Mr Alain Marionette, who recently arrived to Gatwick and contacted Gammonlife.com to say, “I am an avid backgammon player and when I saw the painting in the field I was delighted to see backgammon promoted in such a stylish fashion!”.
