Chatzelis Wins Athens Monthly to Reach #1 in GBgF Ranking List

Takis Chatzelis became the October Greek Champion at the (GBgF) Greek Backgammon Federation’s second tournament of Season 2 by defeating Charis Christidis in an exciting final at Cafe Aias in Anthousa, Athens on Saturday, October 18, 2008.

This second tournament attracted 27 participants, which makes a total of 49 different players participating in the first two events of the new season.

Chatzelis won this monthly event using hard work, and the experience he has gained playing at some major tournaments in Europe this year - he participated in the Paris Open in France, the Portuguese Open in Estoril, the World Championship in Monte Carlo and the PartoucheGammon Tour event in Cannes.

Since he also won several matches in our September backgammon tournament in Salonika (Thessaloniki), Takis Chatzelis is now #1 in the updated rankings for October. The point system is made in a way to reward games played, therefore, the more you play and the more you win, the more points you gain.

Takis won 10 out of 13 matches in these first two tournaments of the new season, putting him 14 points ahead of the #2 ranked player, Michalis Manolios, who won the Last Chance in Salonika and the Consolation this month in Athens, against Nikos Mastroperros, a very promising young player from Athens - that match can be seen analyzed by Snowie Professional software in HTML at this link or you can download the match file here to analyze it in your own Snowie of GNUbg program.

The Greek Backgammon Federation's next monthly tournament is scheduled for November 22, 2008 in Anthousa, at the Aias Mini Football Club, Leoforos Anthousas 9.

The first coffee or beverage is free for registered players.

15:00 Public Draw, play begins in the Main

15:30 Play begins in the Consolation

Entry fee is €90 and the registration fee is €10 - 100% of the entry fees will be returned to the winners in the following manner:

Prize Money Distribution

Main Winner: 40% and trophy

Main Finalist: 20% and trophy

Main Semifinalist1: 5%

Main Semifinalist2: 5%

Consolation Winner: 20% and trophy

Consolation Finalist: 10%
